Poprzedni, studyjny mix Voorna z którym miałem do czynienia – nagrany z 3 decków 'Fuse’, był tak dobry, że jak mniemam artysta znudził się tradycyjną metodą nagrywania mixu. Na potrzeby Balance 014 znalazł 100 utworów, które chirurgicznie pociął, przerobił i posklejał. O ile sam koncept nie jest nowy – na ten pomysł wpadł juz Richie Hawtin nagrywajac DE:9 – o tyle wykonanie dosyć nowatorskie. Holender nie skupił się bowiem wzorem poprzednika na krótkich loopach, które po złożeniu cięźko było rozpoznać, on bawi się także elementami harmonicznymi i dłuższymi fragmentami utorów.
Mix składa się z dwóch części – tanecznej i kontemplacyjnej. Sam w sobie sprawia wrażenie przyjemnej podróży. Co ciekawe potwierdza moją teorię, że to właśnie Holendrzy kręcą najbardziej funkujące bassline’y. Taneczne momenty albumu oparte są właśnie na przebiegach basu autorstwa: Borisa Wernera, District One czy Poldera. Dużo tu dubtechno i klasycznego Detroit, ale pojawiają się też hity ostatniego i poprzedniego sezonu. Najwięcej jest zdecydowanie tracków Minilogue, pojawiają się znane acapelle i wersje bez beatu. Mamy też polski akcent – na składankę trafił jeden utwór – Lethe 1 – Vitalisa Popoffa (wyszedł nakładem Rivers of Recordings).
Midori – czyli spokojniejsza część podróży zdecydowanie mnie zaskoczyła, patrząc na tracklistę nie spodziewałem się, że wywrze na mnie aż tak piorunujące wrażenie. Jest dub, disco, jest i indie, a koniec dążący przez mój ukochany „King in my Empire” w połączeniu z 'at les’ Craiga z Raidohead i Aphexem – mistrzowski. Finał przemilczę, żeby nie odbierać Wam wrazeń.
Voorn jest jednym z popularniejszych remixerów (sam czy jako Rejected) – składając doskonałą konstrukcję z tylu elementów – udowadnia dlaczego. Nie sądzę, źebym bardzo przesadzał mowiąc, że Balance 014 Jorisa to najlepszy studyjny mix od czasu „Decks, EFX & 909” Hawtina. Kupujcie!!!
